Get Ready to Study in 2018!

The 2017–18 University Admission Centre (UAC) Guides were provided this week to all current Year 12 students. This year the Guide contains descriptions of over 2,000 courses at 45 institutions, plus plenty of useful information about the ins and outs of applying through UAC.

University Admission Centre (UAC) applications is now open.

Please refer to the following link to access the power point on Applying through UAC.

All Year 12 students will need to be aware of the following changes from University Admission Centre that will affect students applying from August 2017:

  • The maximum number of preferences will now be five (not nine as currently).
  • There will be an offer round after ATAR release and before Christmas.
  • There will be an offer round in mid-January but no ‘Main Round’.
  • Cut-offs will be published for the pre-Christmas round and the mid-January round.

Click here for HSC and Click here for IB

These changes simplify the admissions process and ensure that offers are made in a timely manner.

We recommend all Year 12 students apply by Friday 29 September 2017, before the processing charge starts to increase.

Processing charge for 2017 is now set as $58.00. Each student will be required to pay this charge after they apply through UAC.

After you apply, you can change your course preferences as many times as you like for no extra cost. Many students wait to receive their ATAR before they make their final decision.

If students are applying for scholarships, they will need a UAC number. However, this number isn't generated until you apply through UAC.

For Year 12/HSC applicants – You will apply through UAC, using your NESA number ONLY, and UAC four-digit PIN (which you will receive by mail to your home address in August) when first applying through the UAC site. The UAC PIN allows you to apply online through UAC’s website. It also gives you access to your ATAR and to UAC’s Check and Change, where you can change your course preferences and check for offers. Your UAC application number has nine digits and is issued when you apply.

For Year 12/IB applicants – You will need to use your Personal Code (6 alphanumeric like abc123)

For Year 12/IB applicants –Your UAC PIN is the first four digits of your date of birth. For example, if your birthday is 3 October, your UAC PIN is 0310; if your birthday is 17 May, your UAC PIN is 1705.

Once you have started your UAC application, your UAC number is then generated and this will be used throughout the application period.

Lost or forgotten PIN: If you’ve already applied through UAC, you can click on the lost PIN link in Check and Change to have it emailed to you. If you haven’t applied, you can call UAC Customer Service on 1300 ASK UAC (1300 275 822), from (Monday to Friday 8.30am–4.30pm). Due to privacy legislation, UAC can only release this information to you.

UAC Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS)
Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) are one way institutions make early offers of undergraduate admission, using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR.
Participating institutions can use a range of criteria when making SRS offers, including your Year 11 studies, school's rating of your abilities in areas of study and aptitudes, and your Educational Access Schemes (EAS) application (if applicable).
SRS Applications Open Wednesday 2 August and close Friday 29 September
Educational Access Scheme Applications
Educational Access Schemes (EAS) aim to help students whose education has been negatively affected
during Year 11 and/or Year 12 receive an offer to university. Institutions use EAS to help eligible
applicants gain admission to university if their ATAR is below a course cut-off by allocating bonus points,
or places, to eligible EAS applicants.
UAC Equity Scholarships Applications Open
Equity Scholarships help financially disadvantaged students with the general costs associated with tertiary study.
Equity Scholarships are awarded to students from low socio-economic backgrounds, particularly those who receive Centrelink income support payments.

Student Life in the Tertiary World

Choosing what to study and where to study is really just the tip of the iceberg. Once you've finally made the big decision and turned up for your first day, student life is everything that follows. Your time as a student is a whole lot more than just showing up to class and displaying a diploma on your wall. Rather, it's about the complete picture and what you get out of your experience, including minor ups and downs and the general challenges that come with taking time out to complete post-compulsory education.

How to get Industry Experience While You are Still Studying.

It’s never too early to start thinking about getting your foot in the door. University can be a tad overwhelming for new students but once you’ve become settled, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for any workplace opportunities.

Whether it’s through an internship, volunteering, work experience or a combination of all three, getting ahead is entirely possible while you’re still studying.
